Being unique in Second Life is as important as it is in RL. The 12 choices of avatar design available when you start SL would be a deal breaking limit in RL. There is a multitude of products available for purchase to customize yourself, but it can be a challenge to be unique employing only free items. One way is to take advantage of premium designer giveaways. Some designers put the latest creations out for free for a limited time before offering them for sale in their shop. Around holidays you can also find gifts under christmas trees or in items scattered around for scavenger hunting as well. Second life’s Wiki page has an entry about “Fashion in Second Life” (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Fashion_in_Second_Life) with links to fashion publications. Sometimes, they tell of designer freebies available. Groups can help guide you to good free items as well. Check out Fashion Consolidated, The Avastar readers and Freebie Hunting Babes. Excellent article and the exact way I started out with my Avatar. Another way to get least occasionally get good quality clothing free is by joining an update group, if one is available, for a favorite store. I belong to several and they quite frequently offer up freebies for everything from the start of a new store location to the release of a new design line.
