I like to travel around Second Life finding unique examples of creativity. While visiting on the VLS (Virtual Light Studios) Island I was fortunate enough to witness the preparation of ChangHigh Trinity Sisters and Cypress Rosewood’s charity event production. On December 21 at 3pm The Trinity Sisters and Cypress Rosewood will be entertaining Second Life residents with their amazing lighting show and Cypress’ truly spiritual music. The collaboration has been in the works for several months now and the show is just stunning. Special effects, timed animations, and gorgeous costumes will be enhanced with the talents of Cypress - all the proceeds of this show will be then donated to Green Peace.

While wandering around Gravity Labs, I stumbled upon the Biggest Christmas Tree in Second Life. This thing is much bigger than the picture shows, looks to be around 80 meters right now. Although it says it’s a build in progress, taking a ride in the built-in elevator in the trunk brings you to a top platform. It’s here that I found a Ice Skating Race game, all kinds of prices, and a 24/7 Dancing Party going on! You can even sit on Santa’s Lap or cuddle up in Santa’s Sleigh! Just do a search for “The BIGGEST CHRISTMAS TREE IN SECOND LIFE!” and enjoy a great time.

Sl and virtual worlds are increasing becoming centers for education and language. ESL school is the most popular training center for english language. There are both text and voice classes there. Initial classes. Initial classes are generally around conversations in a group, where there is a ESL teacher, whose work is to correct gramatical mistakes in converstaions. Nearly all teachers are RL language teachers, thus though the classes are in a virtual setting but the atmosphere is real. The company’s slogan is when you want, when you can, when you need. Giovanni Tweak the owner feels that this the future of classroom in 10 years from now. ESl SL (183, 54, 97) Ash! Sl ireport

While wandering along docks near Tradewinds Yacht Club I stumbled into some people preparing for the the Official Launch to what seems to have been kept pretty hushed in the SL Sailing world… A major competitor to the now infamous and ever popular Tako Sailing boat.. Mothgirl Dibou’s “Flying Fizz” racing sailboat I understand it is completely done from scratch including scripts and hud and most importantly.. priced competitively with the Tako at 250L. Will the Tako dominated wold of SL sailing be turned upside down? Will be interesting to find out. Unveiling will take place at 12 Noon Nov 29th at Tradewinds Yacht Club.

As many of the residents have found, there is a growing trend of new residents and turning heads due to the coverage by the media that has encouraged a new wave of creativity and art within the world. Accountln Peccable is one of these creative minds behind some of the new waves of creativity and ingenuity. In Second Life he says that “you can present your creative edge in anything you wish to do”, from being a consultant to new business owners who see the potential of a virtual business to producing videos with dancing models as a director (video is found in YouTube). Second Life continues to provide new experiences and freedoms to new and current residents to be able to really “live” a second life. “On my case, I can build, provide supporting orientations with my consulting and make a virtual marketing opportunity by directing videos” says Accountln during our interview. Hollywood be aware, the new generation of stars are going SL.

I visited the Xiballa Labyrinth located in the Nonprofit Commons Island. The Labyrinth is the artistic creation of Avatar Aurakyo Insoo - a brilliant artist with a mission. The topic may be controversial - it is certainly ‘mature’ material because of nudity - but this does not take away from its strength. The over-powering beauty of the exhibit leaves you with many questions and many conflicting emotions. It is a journey that is similar to our journey in life - at once beautiful and evil, powerful and compassionate, gentle and cruel. In this place you will encounter children of war and poverty and starvation - you will encounter wars and spilt blood, but you will also encounter the power of Pablo Neruda’s poetry. You will be taken into the Lost Objects area where you are encouraged to ‘find or lose those objects, the memories, the lovers, the nothings and the alls’ in order to find healing. This is one of the wonders of Second Life. SLURL: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Plush%20River%20VII/128/128/0

Cyberpunk city

This is Cyber Punk City in Gibson Island - the name based on Gibson’s the Neuromancer, the author who began the cyberpunk genre. You initially land in this modern megacity, but it has a dark history: the year is 2056 and corporations have taken over. They built a city in the sky leaving behind a wasteland of their doing. In the wasteland live the poor and the destitute. A frightening place. Let yourself fall through the cracks of this building and you will land in the alleys of the wasteland. Space
Educators met at Boracay this week to discuss the topic of the Millenium Student. That is, how do teachers reach students using opportunities such as those provided through Second Life? The conversation was varied. However, many commented on the limitations for school resources, the needs of security, and the hope for a more open approach in schools to teaching with online tools. For me, the most interesting comment was that many students find Second Life not very interesting because it is too open, meaning there are no games to win, and because the graphics are not “real” enough. The most amusing comment was that “emailing is something young people do to communicate with old people,” that they use SMS and IM devices instead. Young people, to conclude, may be isolating themselves into their own communities and playing games such as found with Everquest and WOW. The solution for teachers? To provide structure and meaningful lessons. – Vic Vita
